Clicking on '+' sign in tree view leads to blank space

In the demo and also in my own project, when I click on the '+' sign for a subfolder in the tree view I get a blank space instead of a '-' sign. Is there something wrong with my config?

Currently using 2.5.4.0

That happens for a folders that has no child folders.
This behavior is the same as TreeView of ASP.NET when configured to populate items on demand.

I dont see any reason to show '-' sign which is useless in such case.
